Day 21 Brora to Dunnet Bay - 79mls

Duncansby Head

Fantastic morning. Clear blue sky but still a tad chilly. Sat outside for breakfast then set off on the next leg of our journey. The coastal views are spectacular, you can see for miles. Going up a long steep hill we passed a couple that we have seen  about 4 times since Cromarty. They are heading up the Orkneys, like us, are about 80 years of age, not like us, and are riding bikes loaded with their tents etc.!
Stopped for a walk to a deserted clifftop settlement, Badbea, where it is usually so windy they had to tether their children and animals to stop them being blown off the cliffs.
Next stop Duncansby Head, another dramatic coastline where loads of sea birds are nesting. Had to walk over the sheep field to get there and could not stop Taz eating sheep poo all the way! Just down the lane and we arrived at John O'Groats. Should be renamed John O'Grott! A derelict hotel, a couple of gift shops that smelled of old clothes, a tatty cafe and an empty craft centre. Still, we took the usual photo by the sign, then found out it was a prop for a professional photographer, not for the tourists!
The site is on yet another fabulous sandy, deserted beach, and after walking a couple of mile, we sat in the starlett to watch the sunset (about 10.30).
