Day 13 to 14 Thorpness

Dunwich beach

Woke to less wind and a cloudless blue sky. Parked up in Minsmere Heath and set off on the bikes to Dunwich village. Returning via the marshes on the boardwalk which Ross managed to ride off into the marsh bog. Had tea and the best scone yet in Dunwich village. Went and booked a game of golf at Thorpness GC for the following day.

Found a nice site on the edge of Aldeburgh, but for a whopping £28 per night, and walked into the town. What a lovely place, although three streets have disappeared into the sea since Tudor times. This is the best place yet.

Sunny, hot and windless morning, so walked the rottweiler on the beach and then sat out reading till eleven. booked the pitch for another night and went back to Thorpness for golf. A quality heathland course where Paula scored 33 pts and Ross a lowly 29.

Took tea and cake at the Meare and walked around this fascinating  village (felt like Portmerion) built by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie when he inherited the family estate in the early 1900's.

Biked into Aldeburgh to the Skye Furnace recommended Chippy for a take away, and joined the queue on the pavement.  

Day 11 to 12 Southwold to Dunwich Heath

Very windy. We set off for Gt Yarmouth, which was better than we remembered from a 17 years ago. Walked through the Rows (old Yarmouth) then back for F & C (not great even though they have won awards for the best in Norfolk). Drove through Lowestoft (OK), to the club site on the less than charming beach at Kessingland, I have no idea why both caravan clubs have a site here.

They next morning after stocking up at the local Morrisons, we hit the coast road to Southwold and at last a town with something going for it. It seems that once into Suffolk the quality of towns improve.

Walked round the attractive town centre, had lunch at the boating lake cafe and headed for Dunwich Heath (NT). Exercised Taz round the heath in the still windy and showery evening. Stayed at the Cliff House site nearby which was very quiet, very expensive, with its own access to the never ending beach.

Day 9 to 10 Ludham Bridge

Followed coast from West Runton, but after Cromer the scenery becomes pretty boring so headed inland to the Broads. Via the Nat Trusts Horsey Windpump, to the CC sight at Ludham Bridge. Decided on a bike ride through the lanes to Horning, Wroxham and back through Horning, well that was the plan. What we found was a ferry to get you back across the river to Horning, fine until we got there at 5.50 only to find it closed at 5.30.
So we had retrace our route back to the site making a round trip of 25 mile.(knackered or what).

The following day was an easy walk in the sunshine to How Hill nature reserve and lunch at the Dog Inn next to the site.

Day 6 - Wells to West Runton 26mls

After a very windy night, and still a quite windy morning, we took Taz on the huge beach, which she seems to love. Instead of her usual place, next to my heels, she races everywhere inspecting every sandhill!
No pics of this cos although we took the camera, it was without batteries, which were charging in the van!
Pretty villages along this stretch of the coast and could not resist another crab, this time from Blakeney, together with some cod for tonight.
Got to our next stop at West Runton, just outside Cromer, where we are going to stay for 2 nights.

Biked to Cromer and over Beacon Hill to Beeston Heath (yes, there are a few in Norfolk).

Day 7, West Runton

Awoke to a cloudy but dry day, however, the forecast suggested indoor activities, so off we went to Blickling Estate, about 8 mile away. A very impressive country pile where Anne Boleyn was born in 1500, although the original building no longer exists. Very extensive grounds with walks and bike routes, so because the weather was better than hoped, the Taz got some exercise.

Finished the day off with a Chinese takeaway and a generous helping of red.

Day 8, The weather for today was forecast to be hot and sunny, so woke to drizzle! When that had stopped, we biked into Sherringham, along the many bridlepaths in this area. Still dull, but warm, we ambled along the beach road, and into the uninspiring town centre for yet another crab sarny.

Day 5 Sandringham to Wells next the sea - 35mls

Set off, drove through Hunstanton, where we chose not to stop! Lots of static sites and Bingo halls. Stopped at Brancaster Staithe for a walk and bought some crab from a shack and made the best crab sandwich ever!

Continued on to Burnham Market, which is a bit like Broadway - all up market shops and a lot of tourists. Booked into a site next to the beach at Well. Expensive, but it did mean we could bike the mile into the town to get fab fish and chips!

Day 1 to 4 - 2/9/11 Evesham to Sandringham 167mls

Beautiful day to set off on the next leg of our adventure round the coast. After an uneventful journey, we arrived at Sandringham CCC site in the forest. Really nice site amongst the trees so we are going to stay for 4 nights. Evening walk up to the house which we could not see from the road.
Day 2
Another lovely day, so set off on the bikes to try out our new sport - geocaching! Treasure hunting for geeks with GPS! Failed to find the first cache as it looked as if the area had been cleared and some trees and bushes removed. But more luck with our next 2 searches. There were even another 2 idiots who arrived while we were putting back the cache.
Day 3
Went to Kings Lynn (very uninteresting). Lunch at Castle Rising.
Day 4
Biked up to Sandringham House, about 1 mile. Lovely house, although you do not get to see much of the inside. Interesting museum though and the gardens are beautiful.

Evening stroll with the mutt and plan to move on tomorrow as we are getting itchy feet now!
